Last week our dear friends Ben and Kate Rogers came to visit with us from Monday till Thursday. We've now met up in 3 countries!
We visited Ben in Jakarta, Indonesia where he introduced us to his new fiancee, Kate! They showed us around Jakarta and we all took a trip to Yogyakarta to explore the temples and ruins of Prambanan and Borobudur. It was an amazing time. That was in November/ December of 2011. In December of 2012 Geoff and I travelled to London, England to attend Ben and Kate's wedding on New Years. It was an awesome party. We were also joined by a bunch of other sailor friends. One of which came to visit just days before Ben and Kate arrived here in Seattle.
Marie had a long lay-over here in Seattle on her way from Sydney, Australia to Edmonton, Canada to see her other half. It was a great time even if it was far too short.
While Ben and Kate were here we did some of the more touristy things here in Seattle; like Pike Place Market and of course the Space Needle. We ate a ton of food but mostly we just hung-out and caught up. We talked about boats and sailing and probably drove Kate to near tears with all the nautical talk. While the weather was pretty foul we didn't get out for a sail but we did go for a beverage at the dock down on Cake Walk. Ben was like a kid in a candy store. We talked about travel and which country we'd all like to meet up in next. I think Thailand is at the top of the list but that all depends on whether or not they have tiny people around to take care of.
It was wonderful having them here and it's really incredible when friends can go years without seeing one another and pick up right where you left off. How a song can remind you of a certain time and place and eating a food you haven't had in forever and reduce you to childish giggles.
Hopefully it won't be too long before we can see them again and in the mean time our door is always open and the guest room is ready for more visitors here in Seattle.
