Sails and Snakes

Another week, another crazy day filled with sailing and shenanigans.

The week has been hot here in Seattle. With temperatures reaching up into the 80's and humidity climbing higher there's no better place than to be than on the lake. Whether it's the kids splashing at the beach or the numerous water skiers being towed behind the even more numerous motor boats weaving paths back and forth across the lake, everyone is taking advantage of the heat wave this week.

Happy Birthday to My Favorite Guy!

Happiest of Birthdays to my favorite guy in the whole world! I'm one lucky gal! I get to share my life with an amazing guy who shares the same passions as me and keeps me laughing. We have the same dreams and goals and I can't wait to see what the future holds for us! Here's to you handsome!

We decided to ignore the bits and piece of still wet drywall and peeled paint at home as a result of a leaky washing machine hose and celebrate Geoff's birthday by relaxing and having a good time. The walls at home can wait...

I could get used to this...

Well we waited for the good weather and, man, did it arrive!
The past few days have been beyond gorgeous here in Seattle. With the sun out and the temperatures well into the 80's it's easy to see why parking at the marina was hard to come by.

Waiting on the Weather

Poor little Cake Walk hasn't moved from her slip at the marina since we arrived in Lake Washington on the 13th of April. We've been busy with fixing the outboard and doing some neglected chores around the house and entertaining friends!

Last week our dear friends Ben and Kate Rogers came to visit with us from Monday till Thursday. We've now met up in 3 countries!

The Grand Adventure - Tacoma to Lake Washington

This past weekend has us busy with the boat. Saturday saw us getting the final things fixed up before we pushed off the dock on Sunday. Geoff sent me up aloft again to retrieve a halyard that the previous owners had lost when they failed to put a tag line on an anchor light they had sent up. I put an LED bulb in the masthead light and rigged a tiny block for a flag halyard. We gave the stern a good scrub and put the new name on ourselves and we must say it looks pretty sweet!

Ok! Ok! Ok! I get it! I'm sorry. I'm sorry to have kept you waiting. I didn't want to take a bunch of pictures while the boat was all torn apart and there were tools lying everywhere. Also I must apologize for the funny layout. It was acting up and wouldn't do what I wanted.

Finally Left the Dock!

Sunday marked the first day in a while Geoff and I had off together. We had decided that come hell or high water we were leaving the dock that day. It was overcast but warm and the rain held off. I bent the main sail back on after my stitching spree and Geoff tooled around with our outboard. I stowed all the tools and stuff that had accumulated down below and Geoff was still tooling with the outboard. I started cleaning down below and Geoff was still tooling with the outboard.

Antics Aloft

    Our latest antics aboard Cake Walk had me hanging 20ft off the deck, after dark, in a homemade bosun’s chair, crafted from a scrap piece of 2 x 6 Geoff purchased at Home Depot for 25¢ and some diamond braid line from Harbour Fright Tools.

It’s pretty exciting being first time boat owners. It’s also pretty terrifying! Full of “What ifs”, “Are we doing this right?” and “What would so-and-so do?”…

What a Cake Walk!

After a week of deliberation and countless ideas from friends, family and co-workers, Geoff and I have finally decided on a name for our little sailboat.

Seattle - What a Week! Super Bowl Champions!

Well, a little over a week ago the Seattle Seahawks won their first Super Bowl in franchise history. A little over a week ago this city exploded. Looking back it’s been pretty incredible.

Super Bowl Sunday started with our cable not working. Of ALL days right?! We decided that one of the local bars would get our money that day if we couldn’t get it fixed by 2:30pm PST. “Someone will be over in an hour” they said… three times.

Seattle - The Creation of a Community

So the Seattle Seahawks are playing the biggest game of their lives this weekend. You know… just incase you hadn’t heard. Just incase you hadn’t noticed the city awash in Blue and Green. Just incase you didn’t see the blue flags sporting the number 12 flying EVERYWHERE. Just incase.

I am an outsider. I am new here to the city. I’ve even been told I don’t have the right to cheer and be part of this celebration. But I’ve watched this city transform into something crazy, something amazing, something that I’ve never seen before.

Turn Around Twice and Oh How Things Change

Well I started up this blog 2 years ago with the intention of telling the tales of all our adventures. While our sailing adventures were stopped short, the changes in our life have indeed been significant.
We haven't been to far flung lands or fighting through storms or partaking in hair raising adventures. Geoff and I have stuck pretty close to home... now that we know where home is.

I'm looking to get back into writing blogs even if they aren't about partying at the top of an active volcano. This first entry back is just a collection of everything that has happened since we returned from the land down under back in Dec of 2011. This might be a bit long as it's squishing 2 years into one post.
